April 16, 2009 SES Meeting Minutes

Leesburg Community Center

Call to order: 7:00 P.M. - 14 members were present.

Sec. Report: The March 2009 minutes were approved as written and posted at the field.

Membership Report: Ralph Savino - There are currently 149 paid memberships for 2009. Ralph reported on his researh of past membership demographics.

Ralph reported on the new access to the membership roster requires your email address and your AMA number is the password.

Gate code is on the club sign in case you forget it.

Don Neil remarked that experienced flyers from the electric flyers will eventually migrate as they move up from electric to nitro.

Larry Fortna noted that AMA membership drive is in progress and PDF files describing it are posted on the website.

Ralph is looking for an assistant. Direct questions to Harry if you can't reach Ralph.

Field Safety: Pratt Carter had nothing special to report on field safety this month.

Treas. Report: Tom Craig - The club is financially sound. If you have any questions please see Tom.

Field Report: Don Baisden –Three loads of dirt has been placed on the North end of the North/South runway by the county. We need to find someone to spread it out or get together a party of folks with rakes and such. We will try to find someone who has a spreader. Chairs were found blowing all over due to high winds. We need to get the shed for storing these chairs. At least put the chairs up against the fence to try to help prevent them from blowing around, particularly on the North/South runway.

Don reported on the training program. 2 planes have been put together for training purposes. Tom Craig donated a DX6 radio and we still need a JR radio. Concerns about where the planes will be stored so that can be kept charged up and ready. Don has one of the planes currently and Jim has the other.

Don recommended he and Don Neal meet with Pear Park Flyers to discuss our training program.

Old Business:

Pratt Carter reported prices for 8x10 shed obtained from 3 sources. The best price happens to also be the best quality. Tom Craig had concerns about the size not being large enough.

A motion was made to approve up to $2000 for the purchase of a new shed. Final size to be determined. The motion was moved and seconded to buy the shed from Lark Sheds and size to be determined later.

Don Neal thanked those who participated in the March Fun Fly.

Don updated us on getting electricity to the field. A price of $650 was quoted. A motion to spend up to $700 to bring electricity to the field was made and seconded. The motion carried and was approved.

Zanny reported the Tana Balls he was checking into are no longer available. We will have to purchase them and Tom Craig volunteered to find prices and availability and report on it next month.

Flagpole for the field was discussed and it is 20' tall and supports two flags and only requires 2' to install.

A motion to spend up to $150 for the purchase of the flagpole and flag. The motion was seconded and approved.

The need for an electric gate opener was brought up again. Tractor Supply has an electric gate opener. Since people still are not locking the gate when they leave, this may be necessary to meet our contractual obligations to keep the field secure or we could loose the field!! We need to investigate this further. Tom volunteered to look into it.

New Business:

Larry will need to notify AMA of the swap meet in November.

Don discussed the location of the meeting place because we need to pay for next years meetings. A motion was made to extend our contract to stay in the current room for next year. Motion was seconded and approved.

Larry was thanked for his work on the website.

Larry mentioned that we now have a discussion forum online and to feel free to use it for discussing any topic you might want.

The 50/50 raffle was won by Carl Engleburger.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 and Don Baisden talked about the Skeeter pylon racer and gave a discertation on transmitter expo.
