February 19, 2009 SES Meeting Minutes

Leesburg Community Center

Call to order: 7:00 P.M. - 23 members were present.

Sec. Report: The January 2009 minutes were approved as written.

Treas. Report: Tom Craig - The club is financially sound. If you have any questions please see Tom.

Membership Report: Ralph Savino - There are currently 136 paid memberships for 2009. Ralph and club treasurer Tom Craig work together with a system of checks and balances to ensure accurate handling of all club funds.

Field Safety: Dave Woodward/Pratt Carter - The first person at the field determines the active runway according to the wind. If a calm exists, the E/W runway is the default landing strip. When buddy box training, the flight instructor is the “pilot in command” and liable for any related consequences while instructing.

Field Report: Don Baisden - The field is in good shape generally. Some weeds are growing but Don will take care of them. Please clean up after yourself before leaving the field, i.e…garbage, crash debris, etc.

Old Business: A $50 gift certificate has been given to the neighbor across the road from our flying site for PR purposes. President Don Neal handled this. Tom Craig has replaced a number of old and damaged chairs. The Club Only fun fly has been set for March 28, 2009. All necessary volunteers have be recruited to help. This was a very successful event last year.

New Business: Don Neal - The new club flight training coordinator will be Jim Soltysiak. The club has authorized up to $500 to be spent for two complete training systems. (radios and planes) An annual Officers Appreciation Dinner will be held for club officers to honor them for their service to SES. A place, date and time has yet to be determined. Out going club Secretary for the past two years, Terry Merrill, was given a $50 check to be used for a Dinner for Two as he will not be present for the official dinner due to his soon relocation to Alabama. This was authorized by the club members in attendance. Larry Fortna has been appointed by club President Don Neal as club Secretary for the balance of 2009. He will assume duties at the March meeting.

A new storage unit for chair storage on the concrete pad will be checked out by Pratt Carter with details to be provided at the March meeting.

Meeting adjourned: 8:10 P.M.

50/50: The winning ticket was drawn and Tom Craig was the winner. The pot was $31.

Tech Session: Cancelled due to non-show of the scheduled guest.

Terry Merrill - SES Secretary…P.S.--It has been my sincere pleasure to have served as SES club Secretary for the past two years. I would have gladly continued service if not for my relocation from the area. Thank you club members for giving me the opportunity to do this job.
