March 19, 2009 SES Meeting Minutes

Leesburg Community Center

Call to order: 7:00 P.M. - 26 members were present.  Arnold Holmes and his son Kodi were introduced as new guests.  Kodi (8 years old maybe?) was declared the youngest member in the room.

Sec. Report: The February 2009 minutes were approved as written and posted at the field.

Membership Report: Ralph Savino - There are currently 144 paid memberships for 2009.   Ralph informed us that Bob Campbell has been very ill.

Field Safety: Dave Woodward/Pratt Carter –  Pratt Carter was ill and not present but Dave Woodword reminded us to check our aircraft before every flight.

Treas. Report: Tom Craig - The club is financially sound. If you have any questions please see Tom.

Field Report: Don Baisden – no report given

Old Business:

Pratt Carter still looking into sheds for the field.

Don reminded those volunteers for the Fun Fly coming up in two weeks as to what they had committed to.  There will be two raffles, a 50/50 and an item from Noells Hobbies.

New Business:

There is a renewed interest in getting electricity to the field.  This was started before the hurricanes tore up the field a couple years ago and is being persued again.  Issues such as the need for a 10 ft ground rod present problems due to the underground liner.  It may ne possible to place it just outside the fence however and we will investigate our options.

The need for an Orange Ball, called a tana marker was brought up.  Apparently these would have to be purchased by the club and would be installed the power company.  Zandy Ogilvie will look into whether or not some of these balls that were taken down by his company may still be available.

Ralph Savino brought a discuss about what to do in the event of an emergency that requires an ambulance or rescue agency to be directed to our field.  With many older members flying, the possibility of heart attacks and such require 6 to 8 minutes response time to prevent eminate damage.

The field has no address and GPS lookup, so good directions are needed.  If you use an out of state cell phone to call rescue, be sure to tell them you from out of state and where you are now and your 911 assistance is supposed to redirect the call to the proper authority.

The name of the road opposite our entrance is Sunshower Lane off Rolling Hills Road, approximately 1 mile South of 466 and 1 mile North of Lake Ella road.

Be sure to send someone to the entrance to flag down and meet the emergency personell.

-----

Left at the field are a Hobbico Transmitter and Jackknife. If they are yours, please call Ralph to claim them.

----

A discussion as whether to purchase a new flagpole ensued and a motion to purchase was not seconded.  Due to the liner, mounting the flagpole became an issue.  Tabled for futher discussion next month.

Charles Heddinger has decided to get out of flying and presented a list of items for sale which will be added to the website.

The 50/50 raffle was held.

Meeting adjourned:  8:10 P.M.

Tech Session: Three tech sessions were held.  Norman Paddock displayed a neat hanger for your planes made from aluminum rod purchased from Lowes and some pipe insulation.

Don Baisden showed off his new control line R/C plane which tethers to a pole and is flown with a transmitter.

Larry Fortna brought his Phlatprinter and a couple of foam planes to show what a CNC machine can do to cut out foam planes, balsa ribs, lite ply,  make plastic molds, and airbrush stencils.  For more information on the Phlatprinter, visit http://phlatforum.com.
