September 18, 2008 SES Meeting Minutes Leesburg Community Center Call to order: 7:00 P.M. - 22 members were present with one visitor. Sec. Report: The June 2008 minutes were approved as written. (No meetings in July or August) Treas. Report: Tom Craig - The treasurers report was not available as Tom was out of town. Membership Report: Ralph Savino - There are currently 148 paid memberships. Our target is 150 in order to insure adequate operating funds. Field Safety: Dave Woodward/Pratt Carter - Pratt mentioned that we need to continue paying attention to our flying. With snowbirds coming back things will undoubtedly get busier. Field Report: Don Baisden - The canopy should be going up soon on the shelter at the N/S runway. The field is in good shape. Old Business: Jack Hostetler announced again that he will not seek another term as President. Jack has been the SES President for two years. He would however, be available to run as V.P. The current SES Secretary and SES Treasurer have agreed to serve a third term if the club so desires. Be thinking about whom you would like to see as SES President. All SES club offices are open for nominations however. New Business: Jack Hostetler - Discussion centered around what the club should do about a shelter for the E/W runway. Three options were discussed. The first: To move the blue steel container up onto the concrete slab and build a suitable lean-to affair from the North side of it for shade. A second container would be purchased and located on the slab also with a similar addition built onto it. Cost approx. $4217. The second: Lake Square Aluminum Co. proposed an 18 X 36 all metal structure at a cost of $5830 including necessary permits. The Third: Orlando Steel Co. submitted a quote for an 18 X 36 all metal carport structure installed with all permits for $3185. After much discussion it was decided to pursue our third option with the Orlando Steel Co. A motion was made and seconded to move ahead with the carport type structure. A unanimous vote was given to proceed. Jack will go to Ocala and visit the company’s showplace to look and inspect the actual structure before signing the contract. The motion was made with that stipulation. Meeting adjourned: 7:47 P.M. 50/50: The $26 pot was won by Pratt Carter. Tech Session: An interesting talk was given by Bill Proffit on the best colors and trim designs for orientation of our model airplanes when flying. Colors do make a difference. Terry Merrill - SES Secretary |
